First WEEE conference since the entry into force of WEEE II

It is just a matter of weeks until the prestigious WEEE Forum Conference, the first conference since the new WEEE II legislation entered into force last month, will take place in London on 21-22 September, attracting delegates from across Europe to discuss the latest developments in the area of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) management and resource efficiency, one of Europe's flagship programmes.

The conference will be hosted by Repic, the UK’s largest WEEE producer compliance scheme and a member of the WEEE Forum, the world’s largest organisation in its kind. Last year, the 41 members of the WEEE Forum collected, reported and properly treated about 2 million tonnes of WEEE.

The theme of this year’s conference will highlight the relationship between WEEE II and the other ‘3 EEEs’ (environment, economy and employment). It will focus on the positive impact that the effective transposition of the new legislation will have on these particular areas, and how each of the ‘3 EEEs’ can be sustainably developed. Interactive panel discussions will seek to address the following fundamental questions: How can member states reach the new WEEE collection targets? How can producer compliance schemes contribute to a resource-efficient Europe? What can we collectively do to make a better world?

Among the 24 high-level speakers are Antonio Tajani, Vice President of the European Commission, Gunter Pauli, founder of Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives, and Lord Taylor of Holbeach, UK Parliamentary Under Secretary of State.

Some 30 more places are available. See www.weeeforumconference.org for programme and registration.
