On Thursday 3 February 2011, more than two years after the European Commission's issued its proposal for a recast of Directive 2002/96/EC on WEEE, Members of the European Parliament voted in first reading. See the institution's legislative observatory for the outcome of the vote: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/oeil/file.jsp?id=5723502&language=en&mailer=true.

At its meeting on 22 February 2011 in Brussels, the WEEELABEX Project Steering Group will discuss and validate the WEEELABEX standards on collection, logistics and treatment of WEEE. The WEEE Forum's General Assembly will have a final say on the draft standards early April. In 2011-12, the main focus of WEEELABEX activities will be on conformity verification, i.e. the development of audit reporting tools, training and recruitment of auditors, and audit of cooling treatment plants.
